BOUM
We are Swiss ecotech company and a spin-off from the University of Bern, initiated in 2021 by Matthias Erb Professor of plant biology, and Ludwig, a geophysicist and engineer. Their vision was to create an innovative solution that combines technology and ecology to help people experience plants at home, simply and elegantly, thus reconnecting them with nature. In a world where concrete cities are rapidly replacing fields, forests, and greenery, daily life can feel gray and empty. We are changing this.
Matthias Erb
Matthias knows everything there is to know about plants—and that’s no overstatement. He’s a Professor and Institute Co-Director at the University of Bern, with nearly 25 years of experience in biology and plant sciences. He’s also a proud father of two, a passionate organic farmer and most importantly, initiator and co-founder of Boum. Matthias holds several patents and is a multiple award winner, from being named Teacher of the Year to being in the top 1% of cited scientists in Animal and Plant Sciences globally.
Ludwig Auer
Ludwig could probably build rockets, but instead, he's using his talents to help you reconnect with nature. An ETH graduate with a PhD in Seismology, he spent his early career building three-dimensional models of the Earth based on earthquake data and was part of the team that brought Tracktics, a wearable device for football players, to life. After designing an irrigation system for himself with his father's help, he realized that his true passion lies in the joy he brings to the people he helps.

How it works?
Our unique, specially designed pots are connected to a 30-liter water tank that refills the water reservoir of each pot daily. This way, each plant draws as much water as it needs at any given moment. You don’t need to know or remember how often and how much you need to water your plants. In fact, you don’t have to water them at all. The only thing you have to do is to refill the water tank every few weeks when the app tells you to.
To check the water level in the tank, simply check our app. It shows you the current status of the tank in real-time, and also tells you when to fertilize each plant and when to protect it from low tempertures and storms. And it gives you access to our specialized support team, who will answer your questions. The plant knowledge database with over 4000 plants, the plant journal and video tutorials help you with the installation and maintenance of the Boum system.

The Boum pots are made of an 80% recycled mineral-plastic mix with a hand finish, they are decorative, shock and break-proof, easy to move, UV and frost resistant
