In this article, we'll show you how to descale your Boum system. We recommend descaling the control unit annually so that your Boum system reliably delivers water to your pots even after several years. You'll find detailed step-by-step instructions in the app.
Overview: Descaling the Boum Control Unit
What needs to be descaled?
Only the Boum control unit should be descaled. The pots and hoses generally do not need descaling, unless you operate your system in a location with unusually high water hardness. We recommend descaling the control unit once a year. This reliably removes limescale and other deposits from the control unit.
When should descaling be carried out?
Basically, descaling can be done at any time. We recommend descaling the control unit before its winter rest, because it will be disconnected from the rest of the system and stored for winter anyway, and then it will be ready for use again in spring.
How do I descale the control unit?
For descaling, we recommend a standard liquid descaler, similar to what is used for coffee machines.

Before descaling
First, disconnect the control unit from the rest of the system. To do this, use the Boum Tool to detach the black hose leading from the control unit from the first pot (here you can find out how easy that is). Now manually start the pump in the app and pump the remaining water out of the hose. Then, pour about 250ml of descaler into a tall container (e.g., a water glass) and place the transparent suction hose of the control unit into the container. Also, place the end of the outgoing black hose back into the container.

Now start the pump in the app and let the descaler run through the control unit for about 5 minutes - by then all limescale residues should have dissolved.
After descaling
At the end of the descaling process, remove the descaler from the container and instead fill it with water. Now activate the pump again and flush the water through the system to remove the descaling liquid.
Your system is now descaled and ready for use again!
