Technology that reliably cares for your plants
Boum combines sensors, a controller, and automatic watering in one system that cares for your plants in the background. You don't need a water connection, no power connection, and hardly any daily adjustments.
- It works automatically in the background
- requires no water connection
- requires no power connection
- has an optional app for overview and notifications

Smart controller.
The Boum Controller is the solar-powered pump and the heart of the irrigation system. It automatically supplies water to the connected pots and sits directly on the water tank.
It also serves as the tank's lid. This allows the irrigation system to run for several weeks without you needing to refill water or requiring a water connection.
An integrated water level sensor measures the fill level in the tank. If water is low, you will receive a reminder via the app.
You have two irrigation options:
- Drip Irrigation (Boum Drip): This allows you to automatically and water-efficiently irrigate your existing pots.
- Wick Irrigation (e.g., Boum Core or Boum Pro): The plant takes exactly as much water as it needs via wicks. Especially low-maintenance and good for an easy start.
For many, Boum Drip is the easiest way to get started.

Drip irrigation for existing pots.
Advantages: Suitable for all pots and plants.
Disadvantage: Compared to Boum pots, water absorption is less self-regulating.
If you already have your own pots and want to continue using them, the Boum drip irrigation is the right solution. The water is dispensed from above into the soil via drippers.
The Boum control regulates when and for how long pumping occurs, ensuring that the connected pots are reliably and efficiently supplied with water. Factors such as weather, plant growth stage, and the number of pots are taken into account.
In the app, you can monitor the water level and receive notifications when water needs to be refilled.
To the Boum Drip Set
Wick irrigation that regulates itself.
Advantages: The plant takes exactly as much water as it needs. The system is low-maintenance, water-saving, and particularly easy to use in everyday life.
Disadvantage: Do you already have your own pots? Then the Boum drip irrigation is the right solution for you.
The Boum pots work with wick irrigation. This means: The soil is supplied with water from below. This way, the plant always has water available without having to be constantly watered from above.
Each pot consists of a water reservoir and a plant container. Between the two are several wicks that draw water from the reservoir into the soil. The soil absorbs and stores this water. The plant then takes exactly as much as it needs through its roots.
As soon as the soil becomes drier, the wicks draw in more water. This largely self-regulates the supply in the pot. To prevent the reservoir in the pot from running dry, the Boum control automatically refills it from the water tank.
With one control unit, you can automatically supply up to 12 pots.
To the Boum Core SetApp and Garden Assistant

Soil and fertilizer for wick irrigation
The Boum substrate is specially formulated for our wick irrigation system. Its structure helps to absorb water evenly and retain it in the soil.
It is produced in Switzerland, organically pre-fertilized, and approved for organic farming. We recommend this soil for Boum plants, especially with wick irrigation. However, you can also use other soils.
Through numerous tests with different plants, we have seen that the right soil makes a difference. It promotes consistent moisture in the pot, thus creating stable conditions for the roots.

FAQ
What is Boum, how does Boum work, and who is Boum suitable for?
What is Boum?
Boum is an automatic plant watering system. It reliably supplies pots with water and relieves you of the daily chore of regular watering. The system is designed for people who want to care for their plants more easily – at home, on the balcony, or on the terrace.
HOW DOES BOUM WORK, AND WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE FROM OTHER SYSTEMS?
Boum Drip is a drip irrigation system that doesn't just rigidly water your plants, but adjusts the pump duration to the current weather, the plants' growth stage, and their water needs. An algorithm in the background analyzes the plants' required water quantity in real time and adjusts the pump duration daily accordingly.
With wick irrigation, the plant takes exactly as much water as it needs. The water is drawn into the soil from below and is evenly available to the roots. This means you don't have to set pump intervals or water quantities. Water absorption largely regulates itself in the pot. In contrast to classic drip irrigation, the water is not applied to the soil from above but is supplied from below in the pot.
Who is Boum suitable for?
Boum is suitable for people who want to care for their plants more reliably and with less effort.
The system is particularly suitable if you:
- don't want to think about watering every day
- are often on the go or traveling
- want more security when caring for your plants
- want to automatically water plants indoors, on the balcony or on the terrace
- are looking for a system that runs easily in everyday life
Irrigation
How exactly does the Boum irrigation system work, what's included, and do I need any connections for it?
How does Boum Drip irrigation work in detail?
Boum Drip is a drip irrigation system as you know it, but it can do much more than conventional irrigation systems. While a classic drip irrigation system pumps relentlessly (regardless of whether it's raining or sunny and hot), Boum Drip's pumping duration constantly adapts to the current weather, seasonality, and the needs of the plant. On hot days, it pumps more than on cool or rainy days, and in August, a tomato receives more water than in May.
All you have to do is specify during setup which plants you are watering with Boum Drip. Boum takes care of everything else.
How does Boum wick irrigation work in detail?
The Boum irrigation system waters plants from below. In each pot, wicks draw water from a lower reservoir into the soil. Each Boum pot consists of a water reservoir at the bottom and a plant container at the top. The wicks connect both areas and evenly conduct water into the soil. The soil stores the moisture, and the plant absorbs exactly as much water as it needs through its roots. As soon as the soil becomes drier, the wicks draw in more water again. To prevent the reservoirs in the pots from running dry, the control system automatically refills them from the water tank – several times a day if necessary.
What is the Boum controller?
The Boum control system combines a pump, sensors, and power supply in one component. It sits as a lid on the water tank and transports water from there to the connected pots. In doing so, it measures important values such as the water level in the tank. Information about this can be displayed in the app.
Do I need a water connection on my balcony for the Boum system?
No. You don't need a water connection on your balcony for Boum. The system works with a water tank that you only need to refill manually every few weeks, depending on your usage. If there is a lack of water, you will receive a reminder via the app. Rainwater that falls into the tank can also be used.
How big is the water tank, and how often do I need to refill it?
The Boum water tank holds 32 liters (Core) or 35 liters (Pro). The Pro version also offers an extension with a 55-liter water tank. In the height of summer, an outdoor pot consumes an average of 0.5 to 1 liter of water per day. This means that with 3 pots, you'll need to refill the 35-liter tank every 2 to 4 weeks in summer, with 5 pots every 1 to 2 weeks, and so on. Note: The larger the plant, the greater its water consumption. Indoors, a pot consumes approximately 0.1 liters of water per day. A full tank will therefore last for several weeks to months.
Can I connect the water tank to the water supply/rainwater line?
This is possible with an additional float valve and a drilled hole. Contact us if you are interested in this option.
Do you offer an assembly service?
That's not necessary :-). The system is very easy to set up. Our step-by-step setup videos in the app show you how. Setup takes approximately 5-15 minutes.
If you still have questions, we are happy to help you personally in our chat.
Which plants can I grow with Boum irrigation?
We have successfully tested the irrigation system with many different indoor and outdoor plants. The system is particularly well-suited for plants that prefer moist soil. Plants that prefer dry conditions (e.g., succulents) are less suitable.
Does the irrigation system also work in winter?
The controller is not designed for sub-zero temperatures. If you are using the system outdoors, we therefore recommend storing the controller indoors during the winter. The pots (planted or empty) can remain outdoors year-round. The pot reservoirs and the water tank must be emptied. Indoors, the system can be used year-round.
Does the irrigation system work without Wi-Fi?
Yes. When installed at a new location, the irrigation system must be connected to Wi-Fi (or a mobile hotspot) once for setup. After that, it functions autonomously, even without Wi-Fi. In this case, no sensor data will be displayed in the app.
Drip irrigation also works without Wi-Fi, but in this case, local weather cannot be incorporated into the calculation of optimal pump duration.
Can I use the irrigation system for my holiday home if I don't have Wi-Fi there?
Yes. The irrigation system works even without Wi-Fi, however, in this case, no data on water consumption, etc., is transmitted. If you still want this data, we recommend an LTE router with an affordable IoT data plan. This way, you can always keep an eye on your irrigation system at your second home.
Do hoses have to be laid for irrigation?
Yes, the pots are connected to the tank via a hose. We supply black 7 mm PVC hoses with a Quick Connect system and hose cutter for irrigation. This makes connection and installation very easy. The connection is located at the bottom of the Boum pot, so the hoses can be discreetly placed and do not interfere with the aesthetics.
Pots
What is so special about Boum pots, how exactly do they work, and can you connect your own pots to them?
Can I water my own pots with Boum?
Yes! With Boum Drip, water is supplied to the potted plants from above via drippers, ensuring that each connected pot is reliably watered. Depending on the pot size and plant type, we recommend a different number of drippers per plant. During setup, we will provide you with the correct recommendation that perfectly matches your specific setup.
How does a Boum pot work?
Each Boum pot consists of a water reservoir at the bottom and a plant container at the top. Wicks connect the two areas in between and draw water from the reservoir into the soil.
The soil absorbs and stores this water. The plant then takes exactly as much water as it needs through its roots. If the soil becomes drier, the wicks automatically draw up new water.
To prevent the reservoir in the pot from running dry, it is regularly refilled from the water tank by the control system. An integrated float valve mechanically regulates the water supply in the pot.
What is the difference between the Core and the Pro pots?
The Boum Core pots are made of PP, are a bit thinner and therefore significantly lighter. They are available in a rounded shape and currently in pebble grey and with a volume of 13 L.
The Boum Pro pots are made of recycled PET and PP and silica and are hand-sanded. They are thicker-walled, suitable for both smaller and larger plants and are available in 3 different colours (grey, taupe, white) and 2 shapes (round, elongated).
Can the Core, Pro, and custom pots be connected to the same system?
Yes, all Boum pots are compatible with all controls and water tanks because they use the same connectors. Pots from different product lines can easily be connected to one system. Additionally, your own pots can be combined with Boum pots. You're completely flexible :)
How many Boum planters can I connect to a water tank?
We recommend connecting up to 12 pots to the water tank (32 L capacity for Core, 35 L capacity for Pro). With the 55 L Pro water tank, you can water up to 20 pots simultaneously. Outdoors, a pot uses 0.5–1 L of water per day in the height of summer, and indoors approximately 0.1 L of water per day year-round.
Are there Boum pots in other shapes and colors?
Boum pots are available in various colors, sizes, and shapes. The Boum Core pots are currently available in pebble gray as a round pot with a 13-liter capacity. Additional colors and shapes may be added in the future. The Boum Pro pots are available in gray, taupe, and white. They come in 15-liter and 30-liter sizes, as well as a 13-liter balcony planter.
Substrate
Why is the Boum substrate particularly suitable for the Boum system, is it environmentally friendly, and for which plants is it suitable?
Which soil should I use with Boum irrigation?
If you're using the system outdoors, we recommend the Boum substrate, which is specially formulated for Boum watering systems. However, you can also use your own soil. The important thing is that it makes good contact with the soil around the wicks and draws water up into the upper layers. If you're using the system indoors, we recommend Boum houseplant soil.
What makes the Boum substrate special?
The Boum substrate is specially formulated for wick irrigation in Boum pots. Its structure helps to absorb water well, distribute it evenly, and keep the soil loose.
It contains wood fibers, mineral components, and biochar, among other things. It is also organically pre-fertilized, peat-free, and manufactured in Switzerland.
The soil is based on raw materials from Switzerland, including a byproduct from sugar beet processing.
Is Boum soil suitable for all plants?
The Boum substrate is a universal substrate that works with most commercially available outdoor plants. Boum indoor plant soil works for most houseplants (except succulents).
Do I have to fertilize the Boum soil?
The Boum substrate is organically pre-fertilized. Depending on the plant, this fertilization is sufficient for 4-6 weeks. Afterwards, you can top it up with Boum fertilizer. The app will tell you when the right time to do this is.
Is the Boum substrate environmentally friendly?
Boum substrate consists exclusively of by-products from Swiss forestry and agriculture, is free of environmentally harmful peat or coconut fibers, and contains biochar – making it very climate-friendly and good for nature. Boum indoor plant soil consists of pumice, lava, and expanded clay and is also free of peat and coconut. This also makes it very climate-friendly. All Boum soils are produced in Switzerland and are very environmentally friendly thanks to short transport routes.
Is the Boum substrate organic?
Boum soil is approved for organic farming.
