It's hard to ignore: Winter is coming and temperatures are starting to drop. Since plants are slowly getting used to winter at this time of year and our Boum system contains some components that need to be protected from sub-zero temperatures, we want to give you some important tips on maintaining your system and protecting your plants in winter in this blog post.
That's what this blog post is about:
- Cleaning your Boum system
- Replacing the Boum wicks
- Winterizing the Boum control system
- Overwintering of Boum pots
- overwintering of plants
1. Cleaning your Boum system

2. Replacement of the Boum wicks

3. Winterizing the Boum control system
The Boum control should never be exposed to temperatures below freezing, as this can damage the hydraulic components (e.g. pump) and affect the life of the battery. We therefore recommend storing the control before temperatures drop below 0°C. To do this, use the Boum tool to remove the irrigation hose from the control and store the control and the solar panel in a dry and warm place. Important: Switch off the control using the ON/OFF switch on the bottom before storing 🔥
4. Overwintering Boum pots
The Boum pots and the Boum water tank are winter hardy and frost-proof. Therefore, you can leave the pots (with or without soil) and the hoses outside all winter. However, we recommend emptying the water reservoirs of the planters before winter.💡
5. Overwintering of plants
Perennial plants such as shrubs and trees can stay outside in winter. However, if they are in a very exposed or windy location, it is recommended to protect trees from freezing with a plant cover. You can also purchase these from our shop now. Although plants hardly need any water in winter, you should still water them a little every few weeks.
We wish you and your plants a pleasant winter rest and are already looking forward to spring when the next season begins again!
