The mountain eggplant produces extremely tasty, chestnut-sized fruits that enhance stews, sauces and much more! As soon as the mountain eggplants turn purple, they are ready for harvesting. The mountain eggplant continues to produce new fruits so that you can enjoy them all season long.

The mountain eggplant is an annual plant and is sustainably pre-grown. It can be planted directly into the Boum system and grows optimally with the Boum soil and irrigation.

Note: As the mountain eggplant is self-incompatible, two plants are always required for pollination. The mountain eggplant can grow over 1.5m high. We therefore recommend tying the plant up.

The seedlings are pre-grown in spring and delivered to your home conveniently and securely packaged from May 2024. As the plant does not tolerate frost, this is the perfect time to plant it in your garden.

The purple eggplant (Physalis ixocarpa) prefers a bright and sunny location in order to grow optimally and produce fruit. It is also important to protect the location from wind and draughts, as the plant can react sensitively to these conditions.
If you do not have a Boum system, it may be necessary to water the plant daily during the summer months. Fertilising is also important, especially during the growth and fruiting phase. It is best to use the Boum fertiliser, which decomposes slowly over time and releases its nutrients into the soil.

With the Boum system, the purple eggplant (Physalis ixocarpa) automatically receives the optimum amount of water without water logging or the plant drying out.
If you do not have a Boum system, you should water the plant regularly so that it has evenly moist soil without water logging.
