The basil plant (Ocimum basilicum) from the labiate family prefers a bright location. It is best to place it in a sunny to semi-shady spot where it can receive several hours of direct sunlight per day. However, draughts should be avoided.

With the Boum system, basil (Ocimum basilicum) automatically receives the optimum amount of water without water logging or drying out.
If you do not have a Boum system, you should water the plant regularly so that it has evenly moist soil without water logging. As a rule, water the plant every 2-3 days, depending on the weather conditions and soil moisture. Make sure to water the plant directly at ground level to keep the leaves dry and prevent diseases.
